Ask Before You Hire

Before you sign-up with an SEO company there are several questions you might need to consider to avoid becoming one of the many businesses who have been ‘burnt’ by ‘low end’ SEO companies that simply do not deliver results.

NOTE:Don't choose an seo company that is not one of the first few listings in the search results. If they cant get their own company to the top, how will they get yours there?

Increase Website Traffic

Every online entrepreneur I talk to is asking the same question, 'How do I increase my online sales, NOW?'

Online selling is essentially a numbers game. The more visitors to a site, the more sales that site will make. The number of sales made divided by the total number of visitors to a site is called the conversion rate. A typical site will have a conversion rate of between 1 and 2 percent, or 1 to 2 sales per 100 visitors.

It is obvious that if the number of visitors increases, and the conversion rate remains the same, then sales will increase. Traffic is the first variable that most online marketers attempt to influence when they begin their online marketing campaigns.

There are two basic problems with the increase traffic method. The first is that it is expensive to run advertising and improve a site's ranking in the search engines. The second, and subtler issue is that there is no guarantee that the conversion rate will remain constant.

SEO Tip #1: Discover Your Competitors

Of course, you need to discover your competitors before you can analyze them. Knowing your competitors and the incoming links your competitors have will give you a fantastic edge.

Sijison Inc has SEO Tools which digs through the major search engines by keyword to not only tell you who your competitors are, but also provides you with an in-depth analysis of each competitor. The analysis includes the following:seoo

  • Competitor rank in the Search Engines
  • Keywords analysis on page
  • The traffic ranking information
  • % of links containing keywords in the link text
  • The PageRank of linking pages
  • The traffic ranking information
  • Number of incoming links

SEO Tip #2: Keywords Research

Research your keyword phrases extensively. The phrases you think your target market might be searching for may very well be incorrect. The three most popular resources for keyword are KeywordDiscovery, Wordtracker or Google's Keyword Tool

Compile lists of the most relevant phrases for your site, and choose a few different ones for every page. It would be a waste of your time to optimize your website for keywords that are not even being searched for. Therefore you should invest some energy into finding the best keywords.

Sijison suggestion is never to use general keywords such as "Hotels" or "restaurant" as they are rarely (if ever) indicative of what your site is really about.

SEO Tip #3: Optimize Your Website Title and Meta tag

The Title and META tags should be different on every page of your website if you wish for most search engines to store and list them in the search results. There are different theories about how long your Title should be. Sijison suggestion is to make the title relevant to the content on the page. Title tags are important because they're given a lot of weight with every search engine. The  keyword phrases should also be used in your Title tag.

An important advise is that if you wish to be on the first page of the search results, you must include your keywords in your Title tag. Preferably before all other words in the Title. No need to repeat your keywords in the Title, that's interpreted as spam by the search engines.

Note that the information that you place in this tag is what will show up as the clickable link to your site at the search engines. Ensure that it accurately reflects the content of the page it's on.

SEO Tip#4: On-page Keyword Usage

This is where you want to ensure that the On-page keyword is done properly and you do want to have your keywords and key phrases here:
  • ALT attributes
  • H tags
  • Body copy
  • Meta data
  • Title
  • Anchor text
  • Images, file, and folder names

SEO Tip #5: Build Links Wisely and Intelligently

Submit your site to quality, trusted and good directories such as Yahoo, DMOZ, Business.com, Aviva and local business directories. Seek links from authority sites in your industry. If local search business directories are available and matters to you, seek links from those sites. Also use geographic area Chamber of commerce and exchange links with other high ranking websites.

Also, other sites linking to yours is a critical component of a successful search engine optimization campaign, We recommend that you have back links to your website as all of the major search engines place a good deal of emphasis on your site's overall link popularity.

SEO Tip #6: Use Relevant Page Content:

While it is important to have as many words in your website as possible, it is equally as important for it to read well and relevant to the website pages. Having content relevant to your main page or site topic is perhaps the most important SEO aspect of a page. You can put all the keywords in the meta tags and link build, but if the actual readable text on the page is not relevant to the target keywords, it ends up as a failed effort with no result.

The key is to making it relevant is to present the content to the topic of the reader. Potential customer on the site will make heads or tails of your information. The most relevant information will make the customer visit or refer your website.

SEO Tip #7: Limit Flash Usage on your Website

Flash is not Search Engine Friendly, Putting all of your content in a Flash file creates a difficult platform from which to optimize your website. At Sijison we recommend limiting the usage of Flash to present content . The results will not come as easily as if Flash was used as a compliment to the rest of the page. IF you serious about your website optimization, Flash will not as important as being on first page of Google, yahoo and Bing. Remember, if you have to use Flash — cut down how much information is in there and fine alternative ways to deliver the content.

SEO Tip #8: Crawlability Issues

You need to ensure that you always have some form of HTML links in the main navigation on every page which link to the top-level pages of your site. From those pages, you'll need to have further HTML links to the individual product/service pages.

It is important to note that the search engines can't fill out forms, can't read JavaScript links and menus, and can't interpret graphics and Flash. Our advise is to provide alternate means of navigating your site as necessary.

SEO Tip #9: XML Sitemap

Sitemaps is used by web visitors to help them navigate through your websites. XML sitemaps are used by the search engines in order to index through your site, as well. These XML elements help the search engines properly find and link to all content of your site.

Make sure there is a link at the bottom of every page to the sitemap. It makes it easier for users to find information on your site and it makes it easier for spiders to index all your pages. You should also create a sitemap to submit to Google Sitemaps to ensure that all your pages are being indexed.

SEO Tip #10: Code Optimization

The Title and META tags should be different on every page of your website if you wish for most search engines to store and list them in the search results. There are different theories about how long your Title should be. Sijison suggestion is to make the title relevant to the content on the page. Title tags are important because they're given a lot of weight with every search engine. The  keyword phrases should also be used in your Title tag.

An important advise is that if you wish to be on the first page of the search results, you must include your keywords in your Title tag. Preferably before all other words in the Title. No need to repeat your keywords in the Title, that's interpreted as spam by the search engines.
